Star Wars 1313 Trademark Not Renewed By Disney

According to the United States Patent and Trademark Office, the trademark for Star Wars 1313 has been:
"Abandoned because no Statement of Use or Extension Request timely filed after Notice of Allowance was issued."

Disney and EA could have chosen to renew the trademark, however they seem to be moving in a different direction than what Lucas Arts has done previously. With Dice developing Battlefront and Area52 developing Star Wars: Attack Squadrons, it seems that 1313 is officially dead.

The official website for Star Wars 1313 is still active for now. Although it has not been updated for quite sometime. Stay tuned for more details.

Star Wars 1313 E3 Complete Demo

Star Wars 1313 Concept Video

LucasFilm told attendees at Technology Strategy Board event in London last week that video game engines will be used in film-making, with the two disciplines combining over the next decade to eliminate the movie post-production process. (Source

New Released Concept Art from StarWars 1313

IGN has managed to get their hands on some very impressive concept art from the recently cancelled StarWars 1313 video game. They also managed to see an exclusive unfinished demo that would have been shown at E3.

Star Wars 1313 would have begun with a prologue on Tattooine. Various bounty hunters seen in the game would have worked for different crime bosses, and Boba Fett unsurprisingly served Jabba the Hutt. Here we see a young Fett very early in the game, long before he even has his Mandalorian armor, instead wearing only his most basic outfit...Star Wars 1313, as suggested by the E3 trailer, featured a ton of huge action set pieces and Uncharted-like platforming. The shot seen here is straight from the 15-minute demo we saw, with Fett hanging from a drain pipe. As he’s climbing, the pipe bursts, falling downward and forcing Fett to find a new place to grip. Our source tells us these scripted sequences would have been common, and the E3 trailer is a great indication of some of the high-tension moments we might have seen in the finished product.

The main thrust of our demo saw Boba Fett chasing a Trandoshan through a sprawling marketplace in level 1313. As Fett chased after his target, he ran through several storefronts, including a sort of butcher shop that featured sliced-open Tauntauns hanging from the rafters. The crime families of 1313 were using these Tauntauns to smuggle spice to other planets, a plot point that our source tells us would have been central to Star Wars 1313’s story.

LucasArts Shut Down By Disney!

In a stunning turn of events, Disney has laid off the staff of LucasArts and cancelled all current projects.

Staff were informed of the shutdown this morning, according to a reliable Kotaku source. Some 150 people were laid off, and both of the studio's current projects—Star Wars: First Assault and Star Wars 1313—were cancelled. Disney will still use the LucasArts name to license games, but the studio is no more.

Publicly , Disney is saying their current games could be licensed out to a different publisher or developer, but according to our source, that's unlikely. Our source says Lucas has pursued the option for "one or both games," but nothing happened. "With the teams now basically being dispersed I think both games are effectively dead forever," our source said.
A second source also told Kotaku this afternoon that the chances of Lucas licensing out 1313 are very slim. The odds are "effectively zero," the source said.

“After evaluating our position in the games market, we’ve decided to shift LucasArts from an internal development to a licensing model, minimizing the company’s risk while achieving a broader portfolio of quality Star Wars games," LucasArts parent company LucasFilm said in a statement. "As a result of this change, we’ve had layoffs across the organization. We are incredibly appreciative and proud of the talented teams who have been developing our new titles.”

This is truly a sad day for Star Wars fans as well as video gamers. StarWars1313 was very promising. If anything LucasArts could have gotten out of their slump by producing a game that already looked to surpass even the best game developers for the next generation.

Star Wars 1313 Will Not Be Affected By Disney *Update*

UPDATE: DISNEY HAS SHUT DOWN LUCASARTS

The Walt Disney Company announced today that it is acquiring Lucasfilm -- the global entertainment company founded by George Lucas and the home of the legendary "Star Wars" franchise. Official Press Release

You may be wondering how this ordeal will effect "Star Wars 1313" considering Lucasfilm is a large part of the games creation.  Anthony Gallegos from IGN has reached out to LucasArts and received the following statement:
For the time being all projects are business as usual.  We are excited about all the possibilities that Disney brings.
Disney's CEO Bob Iger has stated that the company will now focus more on mobile and social development than consoles going forward. However, he also said they'd pursue console games "opportunistically," licensing out the franchise to other companies. Hopefully under new management LucasArts will be given the chance to complete some of its older game trilogies such as: "BattleFront III" "KOTAR 3" and of course "The Force Unleashed III"

Launched in 1982 during the infancy of videogaming’s life, the Golden Joystick Awards is the world’s best-known gaming awardsThe Golden Joysticks are the only annual awards voted for by gamers – you awesome lot who go out and buy the games – not a stuffy voting panel of ‘experts’ who haven’t actually ventured into a game store – like this year’s lovely sponsors HMV for example – for 10 years. We reckon this adds both authenticity and relevance to our awards. As well as being very much a ‘people’s choice’ the Joysticks are also a fixture of the games industry calendar. They stand as one of the few opportunities outside of trade shows like E3 and GamesCom for the vibrant industry to get together under one roof to celebrate the year’s greatest gaming achievements. - Golden Joystick
